You are living your best life when your mind and body are balanced, reflecting the fundamental Yin and Yang principle behind acupuncture theory. The acupuncture benefits have been recognized for centuries in the East and are currently gaining traction here due to their effectiveness in addressing our stressful lifestyles. By utilizing extremely fine needles, acupuncture manipulates the flow of Qi, the life force or energy present in all living beings. From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture has been shown to release neurotransmitters like serotonin and beta-endorphins—substances produced by the brain that play a crucial role in emotional and mental health. Maintaining a balance of serotonin is essential for healthy eating and sleeping patterns, as well as managing pain levels in the body. Beta-endorphins, known for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, contribute to the 'runner's high,' which is why acupuncture can induce similar sensations. In addition to acupuncture, complementary holistic treatments such as cupping therapy, Gua Sha, and Reiki therapy can further enhance your well-being.

The treatment will be delivered in a quiet private room overlooking a rural setting, where you can experience the acupuncture benefits and other holistic treatments. On sunny days, we open the doors so you can listen to the soothing flow of the river Ceidiog while enjoying Cupping therapy, Gua Sha, or even Reiki therapy.

Acupuncture Treatment
The treatment starts with a consultation to find out what you hope to achieve from the treatment, what symptoms you have and what underlying causes there may be. You will receive the treatment either lying down or in a seated position. Wearing layers or loose clothes can be helpful so you can be comfortable during the treatment.
Single use sterile needles are inserted for twenty minutes while you sit back and relax. Massage, cupping, gua sha and Reiki will be added into the treatment depending on the symptoms.

Gua sha and Cupping one area
Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that has been around for centuries. 'Gua' means 'scrape' and 'Sha' means 'sand'.
It is a technique whereby tools, usually made from jade are used to scrape across the skin on the body to redirect energy flow. In doing this, stagnant energy is broken down, reducing inflammation, increasing blood flow and stimulating the lymphatic system to promote healing in the body. It’s a simple but rigorous technique which has been used for centuries to treat a range of ailments including muscle pain, tension, inflammation and migraines.
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin to create suction. Cupping is can help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
Both can be very beneficial for stubborn pain issues, which have been ongoing and when you've tried everything else!

Reiki
Reiki is a form of energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional and physical healing. It can be a magical relaxing experience.
The sensations experienced as the Reiki energy is received can range from intense heat, tingling, pressure, cold, and some people can see colours. Most people experience a deeply relaxing treatment which promotes a feeling of well-being and peace. For others it can be an emotional release, a chance to talk, or they may simply fall asleep.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Single use sterile needles are used, and they are hair thin. The patient may experience a slight sensation known as de-qi, which can feel like a light ache or pins and needles, depending on your constitution. Some patients may encounter a pinprick of blood or bruising after treatment, or a feeling of lightheadedness, but I aim to keep these occurrences to a minimum. Overall, acupuncture is generally regarded as a relaxing treatment that offers numerous acupuncture benefits.
Will I have to take my clothes off?
Only if we need to access specific acupuncture points. It’s usually a good idea to wear track suit bottoms or shorts and layers for your comfort; I will ensure your privacy and dignity are maintained throughout the session.
How long does the treatment take?
Sessions can last anywhere from one hour to an hour and a half. The initial appointment typically takes longer due to the consultation process to establish your needs.
Can I bring someone with me?
You can certainly bring someone along, but you will gain the most benefits from the session by attending alone. Unfortunately, I do not have a waiting room.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required depends on the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. You may only need a single session for an acute condition, or up to six sessions for a more chronic problem. From my experience, the longer the duration of the issue, the more treatments may be needed; however, this is not always the case. Some individuals respond exceptionally well to their first treatment. Additionally, those with degenerative conditions often use acupuncture to manage their symptoms, while others enjoy acupuncture as a relaxing experience to maintain overall well-being, along with exploring holistic treatments like Cupping therapy, Gua Sha, and Reiki therapy.
How can I expect to feel afterwards?
After treatment, some people feel lightheaded or experience a sensation of floating. Most individuals report a sense of calm and well-being. It’s important to rest after a session, avoid stimulants, and drink plenty of water to maximize the benefits of your treatment. Click here for aftercare advice.
