Acupuncture Treatment

The treatment starts with a consultation to find out what you hope to achieve from the treatment, what symptoms you have and what underlying causes there may be. You will receive the treatment either lying down or in a seated position. Wearing layers or loose clothes can be helpful so you can be comfortable during the treatment.

Single use sterile needles are inserted for twenty minutes while you sit back and relax. Massage, cupping, gua sha and Reiki will be added into the treatment depending on the symptoms. 

Acupuncture has the ability to treat many physical and emotional issues.

Research by the World Health Organisation shows that acupuncture is effective in treating a host of physical and emotional conditions without the side effects of medication. 

Depending on your condition the treatment will be tailored to your needs. I will often use cupping, massage and gua sha as well as reiki during the treatment in order to maximise the benefits.

Gua sha and Cupping one area 

Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that has been around for centuries. 'Gua' means 'scrape' and 'Sha' means 'sand'.​

It is a technique whereby tools, usually made from jade are used to scrape across the skin on the body to redirect energy flow. In doing this, stagnant energy is broken down, reducing inflammation, increasing blood flow and stimulating the lymphatic system to promote healing in the body. It’s a simple but rigorous technique which has been used for centuries to treat a range of ailments including muscle pain, tension, inflammation and migraines. 

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin to create suction. Cupping is can help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. 

Both can be very beneficial for stubborn pain issues, which have been ongoing and when you've tried everything else!

Reflexology 

This is a very relaxing treatment which starts with a lovely aromatic foot soak, followed by a peppermint foot scrub before you relax into a 45 minute massage to your feet and lower legs which will stimulate different areas within the body. It helps to flush out toxins and rebalance your body.  It ends with a slather of foot balm which will help you to float home following your treatment.

Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing  through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional and physical healing. It can be a magical relaxing experience.

The sensations experienced as the Reiki energy is received can range from intense heat, tingling, pressure, cold, and some people  can see colours. Most people experience a deeply relaxing treatment which promotes a feeling of well-being and peace. For others it can be an emotional release, a chance to talk, or they may simply fall asleep. 

Attuned to Usui Reiki level II with over a decade of practice. 

Cost of treatment £35. Appointment time 40 minutes.

Massage 

Full body £50.  Appointment time 1 hour.

Back, face and scalp £30. Appointment time 35 minutes.

Indian head £30.  Appointment time 35 minutes.

Restless legs treatment (includes acupuncture and massage) £40.  Appointment time 1 hour.

Any massage can have half an hour Reiki added at the end for an extra £20 for a super relaxing treat.

Crystal therapy

The treatment starts with a consultation and scanning the client’s energy field, which surrounds the body, to check for imbalances.

Crystals are selected for the client and placed on or around their fully clothed body. Patterns of crystals are known for their healing benefits and releasing deep rooted emotional blockages. During this time the client may also have some Reiki, as the crystals do their work. 

Crystals  may be suggested that might benefit  the client for use at home. A course of treatments may be needed for chronic conditions.

To nourish our battered immunity after the winter colds and flu. An hours treatment accompanied with a healing soundtrack. A relaxing mini facial to start with using acupressure points to help with sinus and lymph drainage , a shoulder, neck and scalp massage, followed by a hand massage and finished off with reiki.

Winter warmer

Nourishing warming  treatment to boost immunity through the winter months.  Indian head and facial massage using warming essential oils.  Using acupressure points to help relieve tension, migraine tendencies and  sinus issues and release residue inflammation from winter colds, followed by a warming back scrub and neck, shoulder and back massage. Followed by ginger and lemon tea and a  relaxing space for you to journal if you wish.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Single use sterile needles are used and they are hair thin. The patient may get a slight feeling called de-qi which sometimes feels like a light ache or pins and needles depending on your constitution.

Some patients experience a pin prick of blood or bruising following treatment or a feeling of light headedness but I aim to keep this to a minimum.

It is generally considered a relaxing treatment.

Will I have to take my clothes off?

Only if we need to reach specific points, it is generally a good idea to wear track suit bottoms or shorts and layers so that you are comfortable but I will ensure your privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.

How long does the treatment take?

Anything from an hour to hour and a half.  The first one usually takes longer as the consultation takes a bit longer to establish your needs,

Can I bring someone with me ?

You can of course, but you really do get the most out of it by attending alone. I don't have a waiting room unfortunately.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the duration, severity and nature of your complaint. You may only need a single treatment for an acute condition or up to 6 sessions for a more chronic problem. In my experience the longer the duration of the condition the more treatments are needed, however this is not always the case, some people respond really well to the first treatment. Some people with degenerative conditions use acupuncture to manage their symptoms and some people enjoy the experience and use acupuncture as a relaxing experience to maintain wellbeing.

How can I expect to feel afterwards?

Some people feel lightheaded or feel a lightness like they are floating.  Most people experience a feeling of calm and well-being. It is important to rest following a treatment, avoid stimulants and drink plenty of water to get the most out of the treatment. Click here for aftercare advice.
